Hello, my name is Joshlyn Wallace, I'm 26 years old. I am originally from Nacogdoches, but primarily grew up in Waco, Texas. I have returned to Nacogdoches to pursue a Bachelors degree in Photojournalism from Stephen F. Austin State University. I have always had a passion for photography growing up. I seem to have always had a camera with me. I am so glad to be a part of the digital revolution of photography. I love being able to upload and manipulate my work all on the computer. I do have a small amount of experience with 35mm black and white photography. I do still own my 35mm SLR camera, but I have never had my own darkroom, so I chose not to continue with this path of photography.
The term professional is defined by the Webster dictionary as: 2 (a) participating for gain or livelihood in an activity or field of endeavor often engaged in by amateurs. (b) having a particular profession as a permanent career. By definition I am a professional photographer. I feel uneasy about calling myself a professional because I feel like there comes a certain standard of quality that comes to mind when someone thinks of a professional. While my work is of a higher quality than an amateurs, I often worry about living up to the title of a professional. I've always been one to second-guess my work no matter what I'm doing, I always feel like I can improve. This can be a good thing at times, but it can also hurt me when I'm trying to verbally sway someone into using my services because I verbally second-guess myself.
My absolute favorite part of being a photographer is the beautiful ability to capture a special moment for a family or individual. Pictures sometimes say much more than words can describe, and it's very special to be able to capture that for someone to keep forever.
I am an advocate for the fight against present stigma against Bi-Polar disorder. I am clinically diagnosed with Bi-Polar, along with anxiety and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). I am very open and honest about my struggles in a quest to save someone's life from making the mistakes I had to make to get my life together and become well again. I am always open to chatting about my experiences, so if you ever have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
If you read my blog you'll learn that on November 25, 2009 I had lap band surgery, which is a form of weight loss surgery. I often blog recipes and updates about my surgery, and am always open to questions about my surgery. My surgery changed as well as saved my life, I have nothing to hide about my previous health, such as developing heart palpitations, or my current health. I weighed in at 297.5 lbs the morning of my surgery, I have since lost 62 lbs and am continuing to lose. Not all of my recipe blogs are healthy, but I promise they're all delicious.
I also do some review blogging. If I'm eating out somewhere new, or get great service somewhere, I like to share my experience with my readers so that they'll be encouraged to perhaps try something new. I've even blogged about my car repair shop. Lately I've also enjoyed sharing reviews on products, as well as passing along tips and tricks to saving money, being frugal, and making your cleaning life a little more green.
My life is an open book for you to enjoy! I have never been one to hide anything from anyone. I love to share any experiences I may have had, especially bad ones so that others can learn from that, and hopefully not have to make those same mistakes before they get to where they're going.
I also have a YouTube channel at: http://www.youtube.com/user/joshlynwallacephoto?feature=mhee. I'm not very good about blogging in general, I'll update daily for a week or two then I won't update for a month, it depends on how busy my life is, but I try and update regularly. I'm trying to say, you can follow my YouTube and Twitter, but you may not get regular updates, the blog on this site, and my Facebook Fan Page are where I normally post. And like I said I sometimes slack off on the blog on this site. For my links to Twitter and Facebook, check out the main page at the very bottom of the page.
